MENA GUERRERO
(b.1996, Guatemala) is a transdisciplinary artist based in Guatemala. She trained as a singer at Maastricht Conservatorium before attending the Michael Polanyi College at Francisco Marroquín University where she earned a liberal arts bachelor with a focus in transdisciplinary arts in 2024. Her work has been exhibited in Guatemala, Germany, Paris, The Netherlands, Turkey and Indonesia. In 2022, she earned Beca Flotador for emerging artists from Teorética Costa Rica and the first prize for the Galería Abierta by El Centro Cultural Municipal in Guatemala City. While painting and colour are canonical in her practice, Mena draws much inspiration from music, art therapy, philosophy and anthropology. Truly, her practice aims at developing transdisciplinary projects based on investigation and experimentation related to her personal account and environment.
Her artistic installations, paintings and performances are picturesque reelaborations of her personal experiences into emblematic worlds crafted by what she refers to as affective paraphernalia. She envisions her work as potentially becoming a self-contained universe that she activates through multisensory participatory dynamics and performance.
